THE MONTH OF
MAY – A Month Worth Living Fully
Have you thought about how you will live during the month of
May?
I know that for many of my accountant readers you will
likely work less, sleep more, and basically enjoy life more.
I’m asking a bigger question though. Will you live it fully?
You see, the month of May IS usually the most unproductive
month in the public accounting industry.
There are some good reasons for this. I know many of you are
tired and burned-out.
I’m not suggesting that you don’t take your well- deserved
time off.
As a matter of fact, I strongly urge you to do just that.
I suggest that you make ‘time-off and rejuvenation’ one of
your projects for May.
If May is a month worth living fully (and it is) and you
need/want to get away, then you should absolutely GET AWAY!
Get out of the office.
Take a well deserved break.
Go on vacation. Go golfing. Stay home and sleep. Whatever
you want and need to do – go do it!
GO DO IT - FULLY AND COMPLETELY!!
Then, let’s get back to work with a great business
project.
Many accountants hang around the office and do very little
productive, efficient work in May. You catch up on a little
of this, and some of that. You grudgingly file the last few
late filed tax returns. You take some longer lunches. You
come in a little later and leave earlier.
But what do you really accomplish in May?
I’m suggesting you look at May with a different view. Let’s
look at your business with a fresh, new perspective for May.
Create a new project!
Creating a new project to begin in May, is just the thing
that you (and perhaps any staff) need to renew your
excitement and commitment to great things for your business.
You need something you can get excited about. Something you
can really put some energy and optimism into.
With a great project and a great passion, you WILL have the
energy you need to do great things in May.
GETTING OTHERS INVOLVED
I recently spent a day presenting several sessions at my
daughter’s middle school Career Day Fair. It was quite a fun
experience. One of the things that amazed me was the level
of attention and interaction that I received from these
11-14 year olds. It was great.
Now not all of the presenters had the same view. Some didn’t
receive a lot of interaction. I don’t think it was because I
was smarter, cooler, or more interesting. (As a matter of
fact, some of the kids in my sessions were ‘dumped’ into
mine because their favorites were already booked up.)
I think the key to my ‘success’ was in how I presented it.
-I had an excitement and passion about talking with them.
-I had the kids get involved. There were things they could
participate in that involved their skills and talents and
some recognition for sharing those things with the rest of
the group. It also helped the group participants get to know
each other better. They’ve all been in school together since
September and many of them learned things about each other
that they never knew before.
It was a great foundation to getting a project off the
ground – unfortunately they only asked me to be there for
the day, so there’s not much I can build on at this point.
(They haven’t put ‘coaching’ into the school curriculum or
budget yet.)
However, YOU do have the ability to get a great project
started.
Your project for May should definitely include:
-Having an excitement and passion for what you want to
do.
-Getting other people involved. Even if you don’t have
staff members, you can get people involved to work with you
and support you. Think of colleagues or associates,
networking acquaintances, a business coach (yes, a small
plug for me), or even interested family members (may not
work in every situation though).
There are SO MANY projects you can work on to make the month
of May a month fully lived. Please don’t let it waste
away.
To show you how passionate I am about this, I will offer
everyone reading this A FREE 20-MINUTE PHONE CONSULTATION (I
know that will be a lot IF everyone called, but I know how
these things usually go) to help you get excited, think
about new ideas, and encourage you in how to get started.
Email me about how you will have a month fully lived.
I hope to hear from you.
