The WhIP Journal eNews [What Helps In Practice!]
Welcome to the July 2007 issue of The WhIP Journal!

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer, whether you've taken some vacation time yet, you've enjoyed an occasional day here and there, or you've enjoyed some afternoons spent with some friends talking on a patio or deck.

Some people think that summer means a complete avoidance of any business development or growth. I disagree. I think summer provides an excellent opportunity to really spend quality time thinking about your business. The time spent away from your business can help give you some clearer perspective on things. You're hopefully more relaxed and you can use some leisure time to really think through issues, challenges and opportunities without being distracted by the day-to-day operations and interruptions.

SUMMER LEISURE TIME OFFERS PERSPECTIVE

More often than not, much of your time is probably spent working IN your business rather than ON your business. I believe that summer is a perfect time to break that cycle. While you're on vacation or spending some leisure time away from the office, you have the perfect opportunity to gain some perspective on your business without the constant stress of deadlines and interruptions.

These are some worthwhile things to think about:

-THINK about the rewards currently enjoy from your business good to appreciate what you've built to date, while still planning for future improvements.

-THINK about the unresolved problems still to be addressed - you may gain some insights as to dealing with them.

-THINK about your team - it's so important to show them proper appreciation and reward for their efforts.

-THINK about your Top 10 Reasons why someone should want to work with you and your firm. List actual reasons and use it in your recruiting efforts. If you can't think of 10 reasons, you have some work to do.
Note: Make sure your team members know what these reasons are.

-THINK about your USP/UVP (Unique Selling/Value Proposition). Why should a client want to do business with you, rather than the firm down the street? List actual reasons and use them in your marketing efforts. If you don't know what they are, you have some more work to do.
Note: Make sure your clients know what these reasons are.

-WHATare your SWOT's (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) as a firm and as a team of individual professionals? Get your team involved in answering these questions (when you have the chance to be all together again).

Use your summer leisure time to give you an energy boost for your creativity and passion for your business. You'll be geared up and prepared to do great things this Fall!
