As of January 1, all electronic administrative transactions in the U.S. healthcare system should comply with the updated standards of HIPAA Version 5010. Hopefully you upgraded your software, revised your templates and educated yourself on the 5010 changes in time for the conversion deadline.

Now that 2012 is upon us, your transactions should be compliant with the HIPAA 5010 policies. Hopefully you didn’t delay your 5010 transition. Just because the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) won’t enforce their non-compliance penalties until March 31, 2012 doesn’t mean you should hold off on implementing the new transaction standards.
